Your Questions Answered! Digital College Student Planner FAQs

The new school year is just around the corner. Are you ready to achieve your goals this semester? We have launched our Digital College Student Planner and the Sample Preview last week. Let’s answer some of your questions regarding the planner in this post!

  1. Is it time-consuming to date an undated planner?
  2. How big is the file size?
  3. How does it help me study effectively?
  4. Can I have a sample preview of the planner?
  5. Can I use it on my phone?
  6. Is it difficult to use?
  7. Which weekly planner layout suits me?
  8. Can I change the cover page?
  9. Are stickers provided?
  10. Which app do you recommend to use a digital planner?
  11. Why digital planning?

Is it time-consuming to date an undated planner?

An undated planner can be used year after year but dating your planner pages can be time-consuming. I have therefore created a file in Goodnotes format for Goodnotes users to copy and paste the dates onto the monthly pages within a minute. A video guide is also provided to show you how it works!

How big is the file size?

The file is around 5.5-5.8 MB so it wouldn’t take up a lot of space on your device. We only have hyperlinked yearly, monthly and weekly planners in this planner to keep the file size small. This planner does not have hyperlinked daily planners. However, there is a daily Pomodoro Planner template where you can add it to any of the 8 sections of your planner on the day you need it. Duplicate as many copies as you like!

How does it help me study effectively?

We want to improve the quality of your study session. Apart from the time management planners that optimize your productivity, we have incorporated a lot of study templates to help you retain your memory, analyze exam question trends, and understand your weaknesses.

It helps you analyze important exam topics

Our Past paper question trend tracker will help you track which topics and question styles come up in your exam frequently so that you can prioritize studying them first.

It prevents you from repeating your mistakes

Question mistakes tracker and Question list– write down the mistakes you made and all the questions you have. Study them before your exams so that you won’t repeat them.

It assists you in building a clear essay structure

Use our Essay Structure Planner to outline your essay before writing it for a clear essay structure.

It helps you develop study habits

Routine planner and Calendar with habit tracker– Our planner encourages you to develop a routine and make studying a habit. After all, discipline and time management are keys to success in college!

Practice makes perfect

Use our MC Practise Sheet template to do practice and note papers(8 templates) to take notes!

Track your grades

Track your grades with our Grade Tracker and write down the comments you’ve got

Can I have a sample preview of the planner?

Yes. We offer a sample preview of the Digital College Student Planner in the Weekly Journal layout (Monday Start) (Beige). You’ll have limited access to the pages as this is a sample preview. However, it will give you an idea of what our digital planners look like and whether it works on your device. Download it HERE.

Can I use it on my phone?

Both Goodnotes and Notability have a text tool where you can type. Therefore, if you have your note-taking app on your phone, you can view and type on your planner with your phone. However, as this planner has been designed to be used on an iPad/Tablet with an Apple Pencil/stylus, it may look small on your phone and you may have to zoom in when you view it.

Is it difficult to use?

My digital planner is designed for digital planning beginners. The index page and the hyperlinked tabs on each page allow you to access different sections easily. We have included video guides for Goodnotes and Notability users. We also have demos on some of the planner layouts to show you how to use the planners.

Which weekly planner layout suits me?

We offer 3 weekly planner options to suit your needs- the Journal Style, the 10-minute Hourly Planner and the Subject Planner.

Journal Style
It has plenty of space for you to write, meal plan, track your habits etc. A very flexible layout.

10-minute hourly planner
The 10-minute planner is very popular among high school and college students. Perfect for busy students to time-block their days (schedule their tasks). It can also be used as a tracker to track your study hours.

Subject Planner
A subject planner is perfect for students who have a lot of assignments and projects. It organizes your to-do list by subject so that you can view your work for each subject easily.

Can I change the cover page?

Yes! We have 12 covers (4 for each color) and a video guide on how to change your cover page on Goodnotes and Notability. You can also use your own planner cover.

Are stickers provided?

Yes. We provide student stickers in 4 colors and video guides on how to import them to your planner. Apart from the pre-cropped PNG sticker files, we also have a Goodnotes sticker file where you can simply copy and paste the stickers to your planner.

Which app do you recommend to use a digital planner?

You may check out Goodnotes, Notability, or Xodo. Xodo is available on windows and android as well. I have included a video guide for Goodnotes and a video guide for Notability users in the Digital College Student Planner.

Why digital planning?

  • You don’t have to carry a heavy planner with you
  • Efficient Planning Process– You access each section/page with one click
  • More flexibility, Customization– Add or duplicate pages freely, delete the pages you don’t need, and change your covers. Furthermore, you can always personalize your planner by adding your name to it or covering up any part of a page with a widget or planner layout sticker that suits you.
  • Undated planners can be used year after year
  • Changes are saved and backed up
  • Your planner looks clean and tidy– Apps such as Goodnotes have smart tools to help you highlight, and draw shapes and lines neatly.

Guide To Start Your Semester Right for Better Grades This Year | University & College Study Tips

Guide To Start Your Semester Right for Better Grades This Year | University & College Study Tips

Back to school season is here again. Whether you are a freshman, a sophomore, or a final-year student, this guide will help you get ready for your new school year and achieve your goals!

  1. Choosing your courses
  2. Preparing for each course + Study materials
  3. Set your goals and action steps
  4. Build a routine
  5. Assignment and Exam Planning
  6. Internships and training contracts

Choosing your courses

When choosing your courses or electives you may consider the following:
(a) Credits
Check your course requirement. Most of the courses require students to earn enough credits to graduate.
(b) The grading components

For example, the grading components for this course are Essay- 20%, Quiz 10%, Exam 70%. You may note that some courses have no assignments at all. Avoid choosing these courses if you are good at writing essays/ assignments.
(c) Prerequisite
A prerequisite refers to a course a student must take before taking another. Make sure that you have taken the prerequisite before enrolling in the course.
(c) Your career
Are these courses helpful to your future career or the area you would like to specialize in?

Preparing for each course + Study materials

(a) Jot down the important dates such as assignment deadlines, test and exam dates.
(b) Understand the grading components
(c) Download your syllabus and learning objectives
They are helpful to your revision as they tell you what the school expects their students to learn from the course.
(d) Create a Course Outline
Understand what topics you are going to learn each week/ lecture. It ensures that you don’t fall behind the learning schedule.
(e) Books and study materials
Wait for recommended reading lists from your lecturer/professor. You can also ask your friends who have studied the course in the previous semester about the reading materials.
Don’t forget to check your school database and library before buying your books. Textbooks can be very expensive and you will use more than one most of the time. If you have a limited budget, you may consider getting second-hand books. You may also check the books in the library and see if they are helpful before buying one.

Set your goals and action steps

Goal setting can help you stay motivated, give you direction and a clear focus. It also tells you what is important so that you can better prioritize your tasks. Ask yourself what you want to achieve this school year.
Example: My goal is to score a 65 for Subject X; or to learn a new language this school year
You may also break your goal into smaller sub-goals:

For example, to score a 65 for Subject X, I will have to at least get a 68 for my assignment, a 65 for my exam and a 60 on the quiz. Your action steps should be specific and realistic. E.g. I plan to do at least 2 past paper questions every week.

Build a routine

The next thing you should do is to put your goals into action. Creating a routine is an excellent way to develop discipline and build study habits. A habit tracker is one of the effective tools that keeps track of your habits.

Assignment and Exam Planning

(a) Your Deadlines

Jot down your exam date and assignment deadlines on your calendar and start working on them early. This can avoid your deadline stress, and allow you sufficient time to check your work.
(b) Break your assignment into several small tasks and set internal deadlines
Internal deadlines are the deadlines you set for yourself. If the deadline to submit my essay is next month, I will set the following deadlines for myself:
Week 1- Finish essay outline.
Week 2- Finish Topic Y research and organize data.
Week 3- Finish essay draft
Week 4- Proofread, revise and submit it

(c) Have a study schedule
A good study schedule is key to getting a good grade in college. When creating a study schedule, you should prioritize the important topics, common question styles, and frequently asked questions. To do this, you can track your past paper questions and identify topics that usually come up in the exam.

If you would like to track important exam topics, frequently asked questions, and create an effective study schedule, make sure to check out my My 2023-2024 Digital College Student Planner and Printable College Student Planner Pack. You may also check out my post on how to make a study schedule.

Internships and training contracts

Internships provide you with great opportunities to explore the industry and implement your learning. Hands-on experience can be very helpful to your study and your CV. Furthermore, a good mentor you meet during the internship can offer you valuable career advice. Final year students may start looking for training contracts early. Training contracts of some companies and law firms are open for application 1 to 2 years prior to the commencement of training. It is therefore necessary to have good planning for your applications.
To do that, you may:
(a) Join career events e.g. career fairs, talks, webinars, and one-day job experience programs.
(b) Track applications
You’ll probably apply for internships and training contracts in a number of companies. It is important for you to stay organized so that you won’t miss any deadlines and opportunities!

Both my digital college student planner and printable college student planner come with a job application tracker to track the progress of your job app and status.
(c) Subscribe to career-related or job openings newsletters
(d) Pay attention to companies’ websites’ career pages

Lastly, my Digital College Student Planner and Printable College Student Planner Pack have everything you’ll need to stay on top of your school work. It has all the planners that help you manage your time wisely and study templates to study effectively and achieve your goals this school year. How to Balance School, Work and Life | College Time Management and Organization Tips

Whether you are a full-time student working part-time or a part-time student working full time, or a student trying to balance school and life, these time management tips will help you manage different aspects of your life and get things done on time without feeling overwhelmed!

Organization
Time Management & Improving Productivity

💌Don’t forget to check out my Free Printable Goal Planner and Free Printable Student Planner Pack!

Organization

  1. Planner vs To do List

Get a planner, not just a simple to-do list because you have a lot to do each day. A to-do list is great for organization. It assists you in remembering what you need to do and prioritizing your tasks. However, as a busy individual, you need more than just to stay organized. You have to improve your efficiency, focus and productivity. A planner helps you to make time for your tasks, think of how and when to execute them so that you can meet your deadlines and track your progress. It also prevents you from creating an unrealistic, long to-do list that you fail to complete every time.

  1. List and Categorize

Next, list everything you have to do and you want to do that week in your “weekly to-do”. Don’t forget to check your calendar before doing this step! If there are any important deadlines or appointments, mark them on your weekly planner.

Organize your to-dos into different categories. For example-

  • Necessities- meals, sleep, medical appointment, Bill payment
  • School- assignment, revision, lectures
  • Work- Your shifts, obligations/projects at work
  • Family and social life- hanging out with family and friends, dates, networking
  • self-care- exercising, journaling, watching a movie
  • Others- chores, running errands

I also like to highlight each group of tasks with 1 color.

  1. Know your priorities

My third tip is to prioritize your tasks. I always schedule my necessities, such as mealtime, bedtime, medical appointments, and lectures, work shifts (if time cannot be changed) before other work as they are of high priority. The best way to know your priorities is to look at the goals you have set. (Click here for goal setting tips/planner). If your goal is to exercise at least twice a week, you would probably prioritize your yoga class over “watching a movie”.
I also shared how I prioritize my tasks with the Eisenhower Matrix. It is a great time management technique that will help you plan your day.

Planning and Improving Productivity

Manage your time, improve your efficiency and productivity.

  1. Time management

Create a routine
Creating a routine is an excellent way to develop discipline. It also serves as an “outline” for your day to plan your time and build habits.

Time-blocking
Allow yourself enough time to complete different types of tasks with time-blocking! It’s a time management method that improves your focus by preventing you from switching between tasks all the time, and ensuring that you have enough time to finish everything you need to do by the end of the day. If you are not a fan of the “wheel planner”, you might consider using a weekly hourly planner. It serves a similar purpose as the routine planner. It creates an “outline” for your day so that you can plan your day easier.
For things you have to do, such as work shifts, assignments, meals, sleep, medical appointments, lectures, you may estimate the time you need to complete each task. Don’t forget to overestimate time for your tasks, and leave time for urgent tasks.
For things you want to do, such as hang out with friends, study 15 hours a week, watch a movie, think about how much time you want to spend on each category of task each day or each week.
Lastly, do not forget to schedule breaks in between tasks!

Let’s look at my example as a full-time student
I want to spend at least 6-7 hours on school, 3 hours on self-care or social life each day.

Weekly Hourly Planner Printable in A4, Letter, A5, Half Letter (15 colors including black and white minimalist version)

I block my time according to the priority of the tasks. I will allocate time for high-priority items, such as lectures, fixed time work shifts, meals, sleep, medical appointments, assignment deadlines/exams first.

Then I allocate a time slot for each of my other tasks. E.g. Do research on Topic X and Y from 8am-11am. Study tort from 1pm-3pm. Time-blocking prevents you from multi-tasking and helps you get into deep focus by preventing you from constantly switching between tasks.  You can plan your day according to your energy level.

If you are a part-time student who has a full-time job-
Block out your working hours, bedtime, mealtime, and important appointments first.
Next, schedule time for things you want to do. E.g. I set aside 2 hours of self-study/ personal development on Thursday and Friday night- 8-10pm. 10-11pm will be my free time. And 5 hours of study on Saturday and Sunday 8am-1pm. I will go work out, hang out with friends, run errands in the afternoon.
This is how I make time for work, school and life.

Break big tasks/projects into smaller tasks

Breaking a big task/project into smaller tasks helps you make progress each day without feeling overwhelmed. If my weekly to-do is to finish my first draft for my essay, my schedule would be as follows-
Monday- Research on Topic and finish the outline of the essay
Tuesday and Wednesday – finish my research on Topic X
Thursday- write up till the 3rd argument for my first draft
Friday- Finish first draft

You can also use this method when you create your revision schedule:-

List your syllabus and break them into different tasks for revision.

This method allows you to create a flexible schedule. If you cannot finish your task on Monday, you can allocate more time to complete it on Tuesday. Your goal is to finish it by the end of the week.

After reflecting on your 2021 goals, it’s time to set your new year goals! Write down your 2022 goals on your Free Printable Goal Planner. Organize your goal list by categorizing them into result goals, habit goals and action goals.

Habit goals are the goals you would like to develop this year.

Write your goal in a habit tracker. Put a tick on the habit tracker when you have completed the task.

Result goals are the results you want to achieve in or by the end of 2022.

You can break it into several milestones to keep yourself motivated. Milestones give you a sense of accomplishment and motivation to strive for your goals. It encourages you when you see that you are making progress.

My goal is to achieve 65 marks or above, I have to-

  • Score 68 or above in my assignment;

Action goals involve the things you would like to do on certain days in the coming year.

  1. Plan Your Action Steps

A goal without a plan is just a wish.” Think about the steps you have to take to achieve your goals. The picture below shows the time management method I use to execute my action plan and achieve 90% of my action goals since University.

Yearly and monthly action steps

Jot down the action steps in your yearly planner.
E.g. Travel in March

– Research places in January
– Research hotels and flights in February
– Plan my trip in February

Then set a deadline and mark it on your calendar.

Weekly action steps

Break your monthly to-dos into weekly to-dos. This ensures that you are making progress and working in the right direction.

Example- I have to submit an essay on 30th January.

Week 1: Listen to lectures and revise notes
Week 2: Research on Thesis and create an outline for the essay
Week 3: Research Topic x and y and complete the first draft
Week 4: Final Draft and submit the essay

I love using a weekly planner because it gives you an overview of the week. It is perfect for projects/long tasks. It allows you to view upcoming deadlines and schedules at a glance so that you can easily track your progress. My 2022 goal planner printable has 3 different weekly layouts for you to choose from. Grab it HERE!

Daily action steps

Break your weekly to-dos into smaller daily tasks
Weekly to-do:
Monday- Organize my reading list
Tuesday- Research on Topic X
Wednesday- finish my research on Topic X and Topic Y
Thursday- write up till the 3rd argument for my first draft
Friday- Finish first draft

My 2022 goal planner will help you plan your goals and achieve them step by step using this method!

  1. Prioritize

Once you have listed your to-dos, you should prioritize your tasks. I like to use the Eisenhower Matrix to prioritize my tasks according to their urgency and importance.

  1. Motivation
I always have my weekly motivational quote written on my planner to keep myself going. You can also write down your ‘why’ and the reward for each goal on your goal-setting page!
  2. Discipline
Discipline plays a vital role in achieving your goals. Creating a routine is a great way for you to build habits and develop discipline. I try to schedule my work from 9am to 7pm and my self-care time at 8pm to 11pm on weekdays. The time-blocking method works really well for me. Read my blog post on How to time block to learn more about it.
  1. Review daily to quarterly

Lastly, don’t forget to review your goals and progress from time to time. I look at my work progress every day, and my goals every month and every quarter. This will ensure that you are setting realistic goals. My 2022 goal planner has everything you need to reflect your goals and progress every quarter.
